What Can Near Death Experiences Teach Us About Living?
I began exploring Near Death Experiences (NDEs) during the depths of my own grief. Research defines NDEs as profound psychological events that occur to people who come close to death or are clinically dead and revived. They often involve sensations of leaving the body, moving through a tunnel, encountering a loving presence or light, and experiencing a life review.
What struck me is how these experiences transcend cultures and eras. Across the world and throughout time, those who return often share similar messages: life is about love, growth, and interconnectedness.
One of the most common themes is unconditional love.
People describe feeling completely known and cherished by a force beyond human understanding. Many also describe seeing their life as a journey of learning, where even their greatest challenges served a purpose in their soul’s growth. They come back changed, prioritizing love for themselves, their neighbors, and all of creation. Forgiveness becomes essential – releasing resentment, including towards oneself, to live with a freer and lighter heart.
Perhaps their most powerful message is that we are all deeply interconnected.
What we think, say, and do ripples far beyond what we can see.
What can we learn about living from those who have died and returned?
If you viewed your life today from a place of unconditional love and understanding, what might you see differently about yourself or your journey so far?
Think of a challenge you’re facing. How might this be shaping your growth or purpose right now, even if it feels unfair or painful?
Who might you need to forgive – including yourself – to lighten your heart today?
In the end, these experiences remind us: life is precious, love matters most, and we are here to grow – together.
